Pinestead Family Lodge in Franconia, NH. $40/night for a shared bathroom, kitchen. Chickens, horses, and swing. Bob, the keeper and king recycler who likes a good, long chat. Close to the White Mountains and Robert Frost's home. Classic Lonely Planet find. We highly recommend this quarky place for poets, parents, and environmentalists. Carter was in heaven.
